XtraTime Web Desk – Things are not working out well for Robbie Fowler and company. After a disappointing start against ATK Mohun Bagan, SC East Bengal looked to gain some momentum but their loss against Mumbai City FC will push them to the boundary.

After a decent start from SC East Bengal, Mumbai City FC showed them why they are such a dangerous side. SC East Bengal got a corner in the 18th minute. Mumbai City FC dealt it well and Rowlin Borges got the ball just outside the box. He lobbed it to Hugo Adnan Boumous who was the only Mumbai City FC player upfront. Boumous then controlled the ball well, dribbled past two of SC East Bengal’s defender and passed the ball to Adam Le Fondre, who didn’t make any mistake and Mumbai City FC were leading by 1-0 in the 20th minute.

The shakiness in SC East Bengal’s midfield can be seen as they were not creating any proper chance. Mumbai City FC created few more chances but they couldn’t capitalize. However, they were lucky enough on two such occasions were their player could have been sent off with a straight red.

In the second half, Mumbai City FC looked even stronger. Just like against ATK Mohun Bagan, SC East Bengal again had a very bad second half. Debjit Majumdar gave away a penalty in the 48th minute as he brought down Boumous in the penalty box. Le Fondre again made no mistake and gave Mumbai a 2-0 lead over the red and gold brigade.

As SC East Bengal looked to recover, Mumbai City FC scored again in the 58th minute. Debjit Majumdar failed to keep Hernan Santana’s powerful shot and Mumbai got a 3-0 lead. Robbie Fowler made some changes and brought in Jeje and others but they never looked deadly.

The match ended 3-0 in Mumbai’s favour. Robbie Fowler and company needs to work hard to come back strong in this tournament. SC East Bengal desperately needs a win as they face NorthEast United in the next fixture.
