Debasis Sen, Sydney:  Ever since arriving in this country, one could notice a general acknowledgement of Virat Kohli’s stature as the world’s best batsman. The Oz media – both print and electronic has been focusing on Kohli in its build up to the series. It is no more an open secret that for India to do well as a team overseas, Kohli must fire with the bat. Few Aussie media has also brought out reports on the wedding anniversary of Virushka. As per reports, the couple is set to celebrate their first marriage anniversary on December 11 in Down Under.  Anushka, who has been busy with her next film, Zero, all this while will take some time off from the promotions of Zero and will join her loving hubby Virat in Australia.

The Indian captain has been enjoying his stay here as he took to the social medium in declaring his love for the city of Sydney. The Indian cricketers have been staying at the InterContinental hotel on Circular Quay, overlooking the iconic Sydney Harbour Bridge and Opera House. The 19th century building, which was once the treasury, has been transformed into a seven star hotel. Indian fast bowler Mohammad Shami also shared a video on his instagram.

The Indian cricketers on Wednesday confined themselves in the team hotel as Sydney witnessed the worst rainfall in 44 years. It started raining since Tuesday and continued throughout Wednesday. The constant rainfall meant the first days play between the visitors and Cricket Australia XI got washed away. It is also expected to rain in the morning on Thursday. Not only is the dire forecast a massive blow to India’s preparations to face Australia in the first Test in Adelaide next week, but to add insult to injury, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) may also take a hit in the back pocket as well.

The Indian cricket board lobbied hard to change the tour match against the Cricket Australia XI from a three-day fixture starting Thursday to a proper four-day game beginning today, but to make the late change happen, early discussions with CA centred around the BCCI footing the bill for the extra day of ground hire.

It’s understood the costs associated with putting on a match at the SCG, like employing security and filling catering requirements adds up to about $25,000 a day — money that could be quite literally washed down the drain.
