Kolkata giant Atk-mohunbagan is in a big dilemma whether to play in the upcoming AFC cup or not amidst the rising covid scare in India and specially in West Bengal. It appears from the fact that they are likely to miss the services of some of their key foreigners as they are unlikely to return from their country to India or else join the squad directly.

Asian Football Confederation, AFC has decided to conduct the AFC Cup Group D matches despite Maldives Football association appealed to postpone the competition due to rising COVID-19 cases in India.

Maldives FA had initiated talks with the AFC (Asian Football Confederation) to postpone the AFC Cup matches of Group D because of the scary Corona situation in Maldives. Ahmed Mahloof, Maldives’ Minister for Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment, has confirmed the same on his social media.

Meanwhile if AFC goes ahead with the AFC cup striker from Fiji Roy Krishna is not likely to arrive due to the ongoing nationwide lockdown in Fiji. Williams’ arrival is doubtful because Australian government have banned incoming flights to the country from India. In a recent development their custodian Arindam Bhattacharya is also likely to miss the tournament as he decided to stay back in Kolkata as his mother is infected by COVID-19 virus and is undergoing treatment.
On May 7 before they travel to the Maldives, players from ATKMB have already gone through mandatory RT-PCR tests in a private Kolkata hospital.
