Asia Cup 2023: Pakistan Cricket Board suggest new hybrid model

Xtra Time Web Desk: Pakistan Cricket Board Management Committee chairman Najam Sethi has fired a final salvo in the Asia Cup stand-off and there are hopes that this new model will get the nod from all six countries, including India.

Sethi has offered the Asian Cricket Council that five teams viz Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan and Nepal will play their first round matches in Lahore, Pakistan. India, who has refused to play Asia Cup in Pakistan, play its two first round matches i.e against Pakistan and Nepal, in UAE.

After the first round, all Super Four matches plus the final will be played in the UAE. PCB hopes this model will be acceptable for all the countries and the stand-off will end.

UAE hosted the Asia Cup in 2018 in the same weather so there will be no problems for the teams.

Asia Cup dates are not yet finalised but it is likely to be played in the second week of September this year. If this new hybrid model is approved and Asia Cup is held then Pakistan is also likely to feature in this year’s World Cup in India.
