KL RAHUL

Xtra Time Web Desk: Team India’s star cricketer KL Rahul is making steady progress towards regaining full fitness as Rohit and his boys prepare for the upcoming Asia Cup 2023. Although not yet at 100%, Rahul has commenced wicketkeeping during the second day of the preparatory camp at the KSCA facilities in Alur. Despite being India's designated wicketkeeper, Rahul’s participation in the marquee India versus Pakistan clash might be jeopardized due to an injury concern.

Rahul is racing against time to attain fitness before the Indo-Pak showdown on September 2 in Kandy. While he recuperated fully from a previous groin issue, a new injury has surfaced, impeding his comeback. The severity of this injury, according to confirmation from selection committee chairman Ajit Agarkar, is not alarming. Nevertheless, it has somewhat restricted his wicketkeeping capabilities.

During the initial day of the camp, KL Rahul spent over an hour at the crease, incorporating fitness routines but excluding wicketkeeping drills. However, on the subsequent Saturday, the 30-year-old spent extended periods of batting and demonstrated ease in running between wickets. Although not engaging in full sprints, he exhibited signs of nearing his optimal condition.

Rahul undertook light wicketkeeping work, fielding balls tossed by coaches from close quarters. Notably, he is yet to engage in wicketkeeping during a match simulation.
