Xtra Time Web Desk : It was a dream debut for Aussie glove man Alex Carey, as he became the first men’s cricketer to take eight or more catches in his maiden Test match. He surpassed Chris Read, Brian Taber and Rishab pant to achieve this historic feat.

In the first session of the day 4 of first Ashes Test Gabba, Carey took pouched the record breaking catch when Chris Woakes got out to Cameron Green’s delivery, thus ending England’s second innings at the score of 297 runs. The Australian went past Rishabh Pant, Chris Read and Brian Taber who were involved in seven dismissals in their Test debuts respectively. Also, Quinton de Kock had registered nine dismissals in his maiden Test as a keeper but had already played a match before, without keeping the wickets.

On the other hand it was a record breaking day for Nathan Lyon as he went past the 400 wicket mark becoming the first ever Aussie off spinner and the third ever Baggie Green bowler to take 400 wickets in Test Cricket after Shane Warne and Glenn McGrath. The veteran off spinner had to wait for 326 days to achieve this historic feat as he dismissed Dawid Malan for the score of 82 on day 4.

It will be now interesting to see what records does the Pink test set, which is to be played in Adelaide.
