Andre Russell joins KKR camp in Kolkata | IPL 2023

Xtra Time Web Desk: Jamaican swashbuckling all-rounder Andre Russell was the first overseas cricketer to join Kolkata Knight Rider’s pre-season camp in Kolkata. He was at the Indoor nets at the Eden Gardens with other teammates. With Shreyas Iyer’s availability in doubts, the Jamaican’s name is speculated as the KKR captain. KKR management is awaiting a medical report from BCCI to get a clear picture on Shreyas.

If Shreyas is ruled out for the first half or entire IPL 2023 season, then Russell cab be given the added responsibility. But the biggest concerns surrounding Russell is he is injury prone. At the same time the Caribbean cricketer has been with Kolkata Knight Riders for quite a few years and has been a match winner for the KKR in IPL for many years.

KKR management will appoint someone as interim captain who will play all matches and demand the trust and confidence of teammates.

Another captaincy contender for KKR is Sunil Narine. Like Russell, Narine has remained loyal to the Kolkata franchise, helping them to two IPL trophy. Nitish Rana is another cricketer who can lead the Knights along with New Zealand test captain Tim Southee.

Meanwhile rain played spoilsport yet again as it forced the KKR players to train indoors on Tuesday.
