Internet Desk: City boy Amittrajit Ghosh and co-driver Ashwin Naik had a podium finish on their debut at the British Rally Championship on Sunday. A day after the duo hit trouble while leading their class with over a 55 seconds lead in the last liaison section at the end of day 1, theymanaged to get their car to the finish and claim a well deserved 3rd place in their class. If not for the electrical issues, a class win on debut was looking quite possible.

Speaking on the results, Amittrajit said “We are happy to have got a podium in our first ever international event. More importantly, we are pleased with the pace we have shown against championship regulars in our first outing with hardly in testing. It is sad that we hit trouble on day 1 while leading but that’s Rallying. We take back a lot of experience and good memories from here and hope to be able to continue in our quest to compete in more international events.”

With this podium, the duo become the first Indians to not only compete in the British Rally Championship (BRC), but also the first Indians to win a podium in this prestigious series.

The next round of the BRC is the Circuit of Ireland Rally on the 08-09th April 2016, which also doubles up as a round of the European Rally Championship.

Amittrajit will start testing a Ford Fiesta R5 mid-year to participate in a round of ERC or WRC2 for some more mileage under the belt before his 2017 outing.
