All you need to know about Kiran Navgire? MS Dhoni fan who smashed fastest 50 in Women’s T20 Challenge

Xtra Time Web Desk: Not many fans knew about Kiran Navgire until Friday when she smashed the fastest fifty in women’s cricket in the ongoing Women’s T20 Challenge. Making her debut for Velocity, the 26-year-old cricketer scored 50 off just 25 balls, breaking the previous record held by Shafali Verma. Despite losing the match against defending champions Trailblazers by 16 runs, Velocity made it to the final against Supernovas.

Talking about Kiran Navgire, she was born and brought up in Solapur in Maharashtra. She started her cricketing journey in the year 2016, when she decided to leave athletics. Before joining cricket, Navgire invested her time in javelin throw, shot put, and relay running but decided to move to cricket after winning multiple medals and trophies in athletics.

She decided to play domestic cricket for Nagaland as she was not getting enough opportunities in Maharashtra. She had an impressive outing in the recently concluded Senior Women’s T20 trophy. She was the top-scorer of the tournament with 525 runs. In her debut game for Nagaland, she smashed 162 runs off 76 balls against Arunachal Pradesh. Navgire became the first Indian cricketer, male or female, to cross the 150-run mark in an individual innings in T20 cricket.

The hard-hitting batter idolises former Indian captain MS Dhoni. Her six-hitting abilities is inspired by the legendary Dhoni. In an interview to Yastika Bhatia post match , Navgire spoke about how Dhoni’s 2011 World Cup winning six changed everything for her.
