AIFF invites bids for new clubs for I League 2020-21
XtraTime Web Desk: In a bid to add more teams for forthcoming I League season 2020-21, The All India Football Federation (AIFF) is planning to invite fresh tenders for new clubs. With I League winners Mohun Bagan deciding to take part in the Indian Super league (ISL) in the coming season 2020-21, after its merger with ATK, the number of clubs has been reduced to 10 from last season. It is learnt the Federation is looking at prospective buyers from New Delhi, Ranchi, Jaipur, Jodhpur, Bhopal, Lucknow and Ahmedabad. The invitation to bid is open from June 10-20.
It is to be noted that the new clubs will have the opportunity to guarantee a spot in the AFC Cup, provided they go on to win the I League. It should act as an incentive for the new club. According to the new guidelines by AFC, the I League winners will earn the right to represent the country in AFC Cup group stage.
