Xtra Time Web Desk: A brace from Sunil Chhetri helped India clinch a convincing 2-0 win over Cambodia in AFC Asian Cup Final Round Group D at Vivekananda Yuva Bharati Krirangan (VYBK) on Wednesday. With 82 goals from 127 matches, Chhetri now sits behind Portugal superstar Cristiano Ronaldo (117) and Argentine virtuoso Lionel Messi (86).

The Blue Tigers took the lead in the 12th minute from a penalty. Captain Sunil Chhetri did not make any mistake by converting the spot kick. The hosts dominated the proceedings but lack of finishing kept them at bay. Chhetri came close to scoring his second goal in the 50th minute as his head was off target. Finally, India extended its lead nine minutes later through Chhetri when he powered Fernandes’ in-swinging cross past a helpless Kimhuy. Fernandes took aim from distance soon after as India sought a third but was marginally off target while substitute Muhammed Ashique Kuruniyan narrowly missed the target with less than three minutes of the game left to play.

India face Afghanistan next on Saturday with Cambodia needing to bounce back against Hong Kong.
