Adani highest bidder at 1289 crores; MI, RCB, Capri Global and JSW to own teams | WPL2023

Description: Xtra Time Web Desk: It was a game changing day for women’s cricket in India as a whopping INR 4669.99 crores was raised as a total bid amount for Womens IPL team auctions. AdaniSportsLine Pvt. Ltd won the bid for Ahmedabad team for 1289 crores. IPL franchises Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore too owned a team in Womens IPL. Indiawin Sports Pvt. Ltd (Mumbai Indians) won the bid for Mumbai team for 912 crores while RCB Sports Pvt. Ltd. (RCB) also got a team for 901 Crore. Capri Global Holdings Pvt. Ltd. owned a team from Lucknow for 757 Cr while JSW GMR Cricket Pvt. Ltd won bid for Delhi for 810 Cr.

Commenting on the landmark day in women’s cricket, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah in a tweet said, “Today is a historic day in cricket as the bidding for teams of inaugural #WPL broke the records of the inaugural Men’s IPL in 2008! Congratulations to the winners as we garnered Rs.4669.99 Cr in total bid. This marks the beginning of a revolution in women’s cricket and paves the way for a transformative journey ahead not only for our women cricketers but for the entire sports fraternity. The #WPL would bring necessary reforms in women’s cricket and would ensure an all-encompassing ecosystem that benefits each and every stakeholder.”

The BCCI secretary also announced that the name of the league will be WPL (Womens Premier League).
