A injury time goal sealed an important point for NorthEast against Chennaiyin FC

XtraTime Web Desk – NorthEast earned a crucial point against Chennaiyin FC. They needed a win or at least a draw in order to keep themselves alive for the top 4 hopes.

The match started in rapid pace as both the teams picked one each before the first 15 minutes. Chhangte scored for Chennaiyin in the 8th minute mark while Imran Khan equalised for NorthEast in the 14th minute mark.

Both the teams kept their attacking intentions clear as they created more chances to score. Machado came close to score in the 29th minute but his shot was saved and then Brown’s rebound was almost a goal but it was once again saved beautifully.

Just before half-time, NorthEast took the lead as Deshorn Brown scored in the 43rd minute.

Chennaiyin struck twice in the second half. They struck first in the 50th minute when Manu Lanzarote scored for them and then again in the 52nd minute. This time it was once again Chhangte who brought back the lead for Chennaiyin.

After conceding two quick goals, NorthEast were in the backfoot. Chennaiyin once again came close to score in the 58th minute. Edwin Sydney’s shot was once again brilliantly stopped by the goalkeeper.

After a lot of struggle and fight, NorthEast United earned a penalty in the 93rd minute and Machado scored from the penalty to earn a point for NorthEast.

With this, the Highlanders are 5th in the table with 27 points from 18 points and thus keeping their hopes alive for the playoffs. Chennaiyin on the other has 19 points from 19 games and are 8th in the table.
