Internet Desk: India skipper Virat Kohli’s magical knock of 129* runs helped the Men in Blue to beat the Proteas by 8 wickets in Centurion last night. With this win they sealed the 6-match ODI series 5-1 which was their very first first series win on the South African soil as well. After the match Indian cricket team coach Ravi Shastri gave all the credit to the India skipper for India’s historic series win. Shastri was right in his analysis as Kohli created five new records in the recently concluded ODI series against the Proteas which is nothing but incredible. Here are the five records made by the run machine:

#On the way to score his third ton of the series in the sixth and final ODI, the India skipper became the first batsman in the history to hit more than 500 runs in a bilateral ODI series. He went past his fellow teammate Rohit Sharma’s record of 491 runs.

#Kohli played an unbeaten knock of 160 runs in the second ODI at Cape Town which is the highest individual score by an Indian batsman against the Proteas on their home soil.

#The India skipper scored 558 runs in this six-match ODI series, which is the highest-score by any captain in a bilateral series. He is just behind legendary Sachin Tendulkar who has the highest score of 673 runs as an Indian batsman in a tournament. He achieved this feat during 2003 World Cup campaign.

#Kohli is the first Indian batsman who has three tons in a bilateral ODI series. Though former India skipper Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman too have a record of three tons in a series, but it was a tournament or a tri-nation series.

#In the final ODI game on Friday, the Delhi boy became the fastest batsman to reach the landmark of 17,000 international runs. Virat took 363 innings while achieving this feat, which is 18 innings less than former record holder Hashim Amla.
