2nd Ashes Test: Steve Smith returns to field despite of a neck injury to help his team

XtraTime Web Desk: Former Australia captain Steve Smith was forced to retire hurt after he was hit on the neck by a short and fast delivery of England’s fast bowler Jofra Archer on the fourth day of the second Ashes Test at Lord’s on Saturday. Though he later came back to bat at the crease after Peter Siddle’s wicket as the team needed him in the middle.

Smith had moved on to 80 not out when he was hit by Archer, who bowled a hostile spell from the Pavilion End during which his deliveries reached speeds of 96 miles per hour.

Smith, who made 144 and 142 in Australia’s victory in the first Test, had defied the England attack again as he helped the touring side reach 203 for six in reply to England’s 258 when he left the field.

He was given a standing ovation by the crowd at the home of cricket as he walked off the ground.
