1st ODI: Smith misses match due to head injury during practice session, to undergo 2nd concussion test

XtraTime Web Desk: Australian batsman Steve Smith will undergo a 2nd concussion test after missing the first ODI against England at Old Trafford due to a head injury he suffered at the training session on Thursday. Smith was rested for the 1st ODI on Friday as a precautionary measure.

Smith was hit on the head during a throw-down session in the nets with Australia’s coaching staff. Smith is said to have passed the concussion test conducted on Thursday, but Australian captain Aaron Finch revealed that the former Australia skipper was left out as a precaution and would have another such test on Saturday ahead of Sunday’s 2nd ODI.

“He got a knock on the head yesterday in practice. It’s a precautionary measure to leave him out,” Finch said during the toss ahead of the first ODI.
Smith will need to clear the 2nd concussion test to make himself available for selection for the 2nd ODI at the same venue on Sunday. Marcus Stoinis replaced Smith for the first ODI.
