Yet another rare feat for India skipper Virat Kohli

Internet Desk: India skipper Virat Kohli has touched yet another feat after he equaled legendary Australian batsman Ricky Ponting’s tally of 30 ODI centuries. He has achieved this feat during the fifth and final ODI against Sri Lanka in Colombo today. He scored his ton in just 107 deliveries and during this innings Virat hit 8 boundaries too. Kohli is now behind legendary Indian batsman Sachin Tendulkar who has 49 centuries under his belt in ODIs. The Delhi batsman took only 186 innings to reach his 30th ODI ton, whereas Tendulkar took 267 innings and Ponting took 349 innings respectively.

During the chase Virat added 99 runs with Manish Pandey and shared a partnership of 109 with Kedar Jadhav to take the visitors home after the Lankans posted a target of 239. He remained unbeaten on 110* along with former India skipper Virat Kohli as the hosts completed a 5-0 whitewash against the hosts.

It was Virat’s second century in the series and his 18th international ton as the skipper of the Indian cricket team. He leveled with Mahela Jayawardene (18). This is also Kohli’s eighth ton against Sri Lanka and 4th in Sri Lanka. This is Kohli’s 19th hundred while chasing and 26th in a day-night ODI.

He also became the first player to complete 1,000 ODI runs in 2017.
