Internet Desk: Echoing national selection committee chairman MSK Prasad’s words, former India captain Sourav Ganguly said few days back that the Bengal wicket-keeper Wriddhiman Saha is ahead of Parthiv Patel in race to play Test cricket.

Recently Wriddhiman struck a career-best first class score of 203 not out in an unbroken 316-run partnership with Cheteshwar Pujara (123*) to help Rest of India (ROI) defeat Gujarat by six wickets and win the Irani Cup this season.

Lauding Wriddhiman Saha ex-Indian cricketer and Bengal Vision 20-20 batting consultant VVS Laxman said,”There is no doubt about wriddhiman Saha’s abilities, he has taken his game to great heights and has created an expectation level from all quarters. Whether he plays for Bengal, India, or his IPL Franchise everyone expects him to perform in a big way.”

Laxman also added that,” The innings he played in the Irani trophy scoring a double hundred on the fourth innings is not easy but he has accomplished the task with ease for his team.”

Regarding the dismal performance of Bengal in the Ranji Trophy Laxman said,”Bengal started off very well but was unable to keep up the momentum. But expectations are high from the present Bengal team selected for the Mustaq Ali T-20 tournament. We are creating different match situations and practicing hard, players are also practicing how to hit wide Yorker during death overs. Hope they will do well.”

Laxman praised the Bengal junior cricketers too, saying, “The Under-16 team reached the Vijay Hazare semifinals and the U-19 team won the Cooch Behar trophy goes to show that the bench strength of Bengal is pretty good and will fetch results in the near future.”
