The BCCI medical team confirmed on Wednesday that Rahane sustained an avulsion fracture on his right index finger and has been ruled out for the remaining two Test matches of the Paytm series – 2016 against England. A ball stuck Rahane during the practice session today. Karanataka batsman Manish Pandey has been included in the team as a replacement for Rahane. It was heartbreak of sorts for Rahane as it would have been his maiden test match at home. The Mumbaikar was determined to come good with the bat after a string of failures in the series so far. Most of the Indian cricketers enjoyed the break of four days after their victory in the third Test against England before assembling in Mumbai on Monday. Some Indian players chose to go home while some others including Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Parthiv Patel flew to Goa to attend Yuvraj Singh's wedding on Friday. Rahane, meanwhile was seen having a session with his coach Pravin Amre at the indoor nets of Mumbai Cricket Association. He looked very determined to score runs in his home ground. Meanwhile, Mumbai medium pacer Shardul Thakur has also been called as back up for India pacer Mohammed Shami, who is nursing a sore knee. The BCCI medical team is closely monitoring his progress and a decision on his participation will be taken before the start of the fourth Test match. India leads the five-match series 2-0 with the fourth Test to be played at the Wankhede stadium from December 8.
