The Goan club is anticipating that the Delhi High Court on Monday will give a decision in their favour to play in the I League. The court orders will pave the way for the Goan club to be back in I League.

Churchill Brothers, who are currently playing in the Goa Pro League, is already in talks with Mohun Bagan’s Balwant Singh. The striker from Punjab has plied his trade for the Goan club, helping them become the Federation Cup champions in 2013-14 season.

Alemao Churchill on being contacted by xtratime.in a couple of days back said, “We are always in favour of football. If the Federation thinks about calling us back, we have no problems in fielding a team for I League.”

Balwant is also in talks with East Bengal. If the court verdict is in favour of Churchill, then he may well play for them keeping in mind his relation with Churchill Alemao. Else the striker will be seen in action for East Bengal as Mohun Bagan is not very certain about his fitness. He had a groin injury which kept him out for most of the season this year including the Kolkata League. He did not take part in ISL as well for Chennaiyin FC. Last year also he played only 5 matches for Mohun Bagan inI League and scored 2 goals.

If Balwant decides to play for East Bengal then the Red and Gold officials may give away the idea of signing Robin Singh.

Churchill has been entangled in legal battle with the AIFF for the last couple of years following the Federation’s decision to throw them out of the I League. The failed to fulfill the AFC club licensing criteria.

The Federation is willing to bring them back following the pull out Goan clubs Salgaocar and Sporting Clube de Goa. Uncertainty looms large over the participation of Dempo SC as well.

According to reliable sources in the AIFF, the Goan club has pleaded in front of the court to allow them to play in I League. They have also assured the court about fulfilling the necessary AFC criteria for licensing, provided they are allowed to take part in the I League this season.
