File Pic[/caption] Internet Desk: World number one Novak Djokovic cruised to the final of US Open for a seventh time on Friday with an emphatic 6-3, 6-2, 3-6, 6-2 win over Frenchman Gael Monfils. The Serb will meet Stanislas Wawrinka in the final on Sunday. The Swiss outslugged Japanese sixth seed Kei Nishikori 4-6, 7-5, 6-4, 6-2 at Flushing Meadows to set up a US Open final against Djokovic. Djokovic started off in style, quickly taking a 5-0 lead before Monfills ran off three games in a row and had two points to get to 4-5 on serve. He couldn’t hold on to his serve as his forehand return went long , giving Djokovic the firsts set. The Serbian ran through the second set as Monfills made silly errors. After taking a two set lead, Djokovic relented in the third with both players growing increasingly tired as temperatures climbed over 90 degrees with 50 percent humidity. Spurred by losing the third set, the reigning champion came back strongly to seal the match by winning the fourth set 6-2. The third-seeded Wawrinka, who reached his first US Open final, took a while to get settled as 2014 US Open runner-up Nishikori played a near flawless opening set with just two errors. The Japanese broke Wawrinka to start the second set, but the Swiss started rolling after breaking back in the fourth game and Nishikori, who went five tough sets to upset second seed Andy Murray in a four-hour quarter-final, began to wither. Wawrinka, the 2014 Australian Open winner and 2015 French Open champion, broke Nishikori in the last game of the second, third and fourth sets to reach the final. In what was one of the more bizarre encounters to unfold on a grand slam court, Monfils was showered with boos one set and cheers the next before exiting Arthur Stadium to a mixture of both. "He's very entertaining to watch," said Djokovic, who will play Swiss third seed Stanislas Wawrinka in Sunday's final. "He's a very charismatic guy and he had a great tournament. "It was a strange match, as it always is when you play Gael, who is a very unpredictable player. He loves to come up with a variety in his game." Defending champion Djokovic will be eyeing his 13th career major and third US Open. He lost in the third round of Wimbledon earlier this summer and was shocked in his opener at the Rio Olympics. But it has got to do with a wrist injury, but since then the Serb has done nothing wrong. Wawrinka, meanwhile is looking for his third Grand Slam title and a second major title win over Djokovic. He got the better of the Serb at the 2015 French Open with an on-fire one handed backhand.
