Image Source: Xtratime[/caption] Kolkata: Bengal all rounder Saurashis Lahiri announced his retirement from first class cricket as well as club cricket. The Bengal all rounder had taken the final decision after having a discussion with CAB President Sourav Ganguly. He announced his retirement in the presence of Bengal captain Manoj Tiwary, CAB President Sourav Ganguly and former Bengal captain and MoS of Sports, Laxmi Ratan Shukla as well as his son Sreyan Lahiri. Saurashis made his debut for Bengal in the year 1999 in a Ranji Trophy match against Bihar at Jamshedpur. He has represented East Zone too in the Duleep trophy and Deodhar Trophy. Saurashis was not only good with his off-breaks but played some match saving innings for Bengal in the Ranji Trophy with the bat. The Bengal all rounder played 100 first class matches for Bengal scoring two hundreds and picking up 256 wickets with an average 37.48. Saurashis, last represented for Bengal in the 2014-15 Ranji Trophy season in the last group stage match against Madhya Pradesh where he played a match saving knock of 48* which helped Bengal save relegation. 13342017_1173350952683874_1243661352_n Saurashis recalled some old memories of his playing career. He said, " I still cherish the fact when I got Sachin out twice in both innings against Mumbai in Wankhede in 2006-07 season. But my most memorable moment was getting the wicket of Mohammed Azharuddin in the 1999-00 season where I collectively planned the last night with the whole team and took the responsibility of getting Azhar out." On his experience of serving Bengal cricket for such a long period, he said, "I had never thought that I would play for Bengal for so many long years. I feel grateful to all my teammates now and before. I would like to thank Dada (Sourav Ganguly) for staying by my side as well as Manoj Tiwary. Specially I would like to thank Laxmi who was my guide and friend." Sourav Ganguly said, "I would like to use Saurashis in the betterment of Bnegal cricket. I already had a discussion with him on this issue and he has agreed. We need this kind of ex-cricketers to come and help young generation of Bengal cricketers and share their experience."
