Image Source: pakistantoday.com.pk[/caption] Internet Desk: England captain Alistair Cook is on the threshold of breaking Sachin Tendulkar's record of scoring 10000 runs as the youngest batsman in test cricket. Cook is just 36 runs away from reaching the milestone Sachin set the record versus Pakistan at Eden Gardens on March 16, 2005. He took 15 years 121 days to reach the milestone of 10000 runs in 122 tests. Cook, will have an opportunity to break the record set by Sachin when he walks into bat against Sri Lanka in the first test match of the series at Headingley. If Cook manages to reach the milestone than he will reach the coveted mark five months younger than the batting legend. Cook will join an eminent list of 12 cricketers who have reached the milestone. The England captain has scored 9964 runs in 126 tests at a batting average of 46.56. In terms of the number of innings taken to reach 10,000 runs, Lara, Sachin and Sangakkara hold the record of taking only 195 innings to reach the covered milestone. Cook has been one of the pillars of England batting since making his debut against India in 2006. He played a key role in helping England win the Ashes in 2011 when he smashed 766 runs in just seven innings at an average of 127.66. As a captain too, Cook tasted success in the Ashes  as he won two Ashes in 2013 and 2015 in England. He was also the captain of the England side which won a Test series in India in 2012.
