Kolkata: “Bar Puja” the worship of goal posts on the Bengali New Year “Poila Boisakh” is an age-old ritual and tradition of Kolkata Maidan since 100 years. This custom is held on Polia Boisakh in almost all the football playing clubs here. Kolkata’s football community also celebrate the day with great respect in the form of Bar Puja. Basically, the reason behind the Bar Puja is to please the All Mighty God to get success in the forthcoming season. During the ceremony, the goal posts of their home grounds are worshipped to bring good luck to the club. Keeping the age old tradition, Bar Puja was celebrated today also at the East Bengal ground and Mohun Bagan Club tent where fans were present in large numbers with the players. Prayers were done for a good upcoming new season to continue the legacy of the age-old tradition which started in Kolkata Maidan almost 100 years back.

KEB captain Robert Lalthlamuana and vice-captain Arnab Mondal were present along with other players and junior cadets. On the other hand, Mohun Bagan captain Shilton Pal and Balwant Singh were present in Mohun Bagan club tent. Sweets and juice were distributed to fans who came by to witness this tradition.
