Image Source : AIFF[/caption]   NEW DELHI: All India Football Federation’s President Mr. Praful Patel congratulated McDowell’s Mohun Bagan for scripting a historic day for Indian Football, as the Mariners defeated Singapore’s Tampines Rover FC 3-1 in Kolkata yesterday (January 27, 2016) to become the first Indian Club to win in the AFC Champions League Qualifiers. With this win, Mohun Bagan also became the first Indian Football Club to qualify for the Asian Champions League Preliminary Round 2. Commending Mohun Bagan’s win, Mr. Patel tweeted, “Brilliant play @Mohun_BaganAC against heavyweights Tampines Rovers in the @TheAFCCL. An achievement that has carved a new genesis. Congrats!” After Jeje Lalpekhlua had given Mohun Bagan the lead as early as the 5th minute, Cornell Glenn scored in the 41st  minute to double Bagan’s lead, only for Tampines Rovers’ Yasir Hanapi to minimize the Singaporean Club’s deficit by one, as Hanapi scored in the 43rd minute, to make the half-time scoreline read 2-1. Thereafter, Yusa Katsumi scored in the 83rd minute to put the result of the match beyond doubt as the full-time scoreline read 3-1. The Mariners will clash swords against China’s Shandong Luneng Taishan FC in the Asian Champions League Preliminary Round 2 on February 02, 2016 in an away fixture.
