In December, the 20-year-old cyclist Deborah from the Andaman Islands who is also a tsunami survivor had become the first Indian female cyclist to reach the fourth place in the UCI individual world ranking. In October, she won five medals at the Taiwan Cup Track International Classic including a gold in the women's elite sprint category. Then in December she won three medals at the 2015 Track Asia Cup held in New Delhi, thus helping India's cycling squad finish third with 11 medals. "This is another feather in her cap. It just goes to show what hard work and dedication can do, and we are all very proud of her. Only 20 cyclists in the world qualify for the event. Hers is really a phenomenal career graph," said VN Singh, assistant secretary of the Cycling Federation of India lauded Deborah’s latest achievement. She is currently in Japan for the 36th Asian Cycling Championships. "Hopefully Deborah can do well there and bring further laurels to the country. If she scores points at the ACC too, these will be added and she stands to rise further in the standings. We are all very, very proud of her," said Singh. Deborah is the biggest name in the current Indian cycling contingent. Her childhood is truly inspirational, for when the 2004 tsunami hit Port Blair, a nine-year-old Deborah who was then a nine year old child had to spend over a week stuck in a tree until help arrived.
