It was a mere friendly where German captain Bastian Schweinsteiger bid farewell to international football. Each moment of the 67minutes he touched the ball the crowd burst out to cheer him. It proved that the nation was waiting to bid farewell to their captain. Meyer and Mario Gotze tried to steal the show, though, with some excellent combinations creating several opportunities for the hosts. The match was played at a leisurely pace, with Germany's goals coming in the second half. Max Meyer broke the deadlock in the 55th and substitute Mesut Ozil completed the win in the 77th. Midway through the second half, the moment came when Schweinsteiger left the field for the last time. He was smiling. He received standing ovation from the huge crowd. But the sight was totally different when he received the garland. "I was very touched, I was enjoying every second," he said. Schweinsteiger’s teammate Lukas Podolski, whose Germany career began at the same time and who also quit after the European Championship, was at the stadium to see his friend off but did not play because of an injury.
