Xtra Time Web Desk: Team India opener Ruturaj Gaikwad has started trending on Twitter for all the wrong reasons. The cricketer from Maharashtra was brutally trolled after his behaviour with a groundsman at M Chinnaswamy stadium went viral on Sunday. What exactly happened? In the video that has surfaced on social media, it can be seen Ruturaj pushing a groundsman as he tried to sit next to him for a selfie. The incident took place when Ruturaj and Ishan Kishan were waiting in the dugout after the game was delayed owing to rain.

During the rain delay in Sunday night’s fifth and final T20I against South Africa, a groundsman approached Gaikwad and sat beside him. The groundsman then tried to click a selfie with Gaikwad who did not like it and pushed him. He even denied the selfie. Gaikwad was seen turning his head away to the other side. Though the groundsman asked for the selfie again, Gaikwad apparently refused and asked him to move away.

The action for Gaikwad was not received well by the Indian fans. Fans took to social media to vehemently criticise his act of disrespect towards the groundsman. Few fans started posting an old pic of Team India captain Rohit Sharma clicking a selfie with groundsmen. The groundsmen work tirelessly to prepare the ground. They deserve a little more respect from the cricketers who are seen as role models.

In Ruturaj’s defence it is true that the groundsman has no business near the dug-out during a match. He could have expressed his unwillingness in a polite manner. The batter from Maharashtra had a poor outing in the recently concluded series. He managed to score just 96 runs in 5 games and has failed to impress the selectors.
