XtraTime Web Desk: Already worried with the hosting of Indian Premier League (IPL 2020) in UAE, the BCCI finds them entangled in another difficult situation. The latest being the non-payment of the salaries of its contracted cricketers for the last 10 months. The likes of Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah and other contracted Indian cricketers of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have not been receiving their salaries since October. It is almost the same time Sourav Ganguly and Jay Shah were appointed as the President and Secretary of the board.

According to a report published by The Indian Express, crores of dues are pending to the contracted Indian cricketers since last 10 months. The report claims, BCCI’s 27 elite contracted players are yet to receive the first of the quarterly installments due since October last year. Not only this, the board has also not disbursed match fees for the two Tests, nine ODIs and eight T20 games that the national team has played since December 2019.

The newspaper report also claimed they had checked with at least eight of the 27 contracted cricketers
and all of them confirmed that their due payments haven’t been cleared yet.

It is learnt that such a situation has arisen due to resignation of some key officials. Both the former CEO Rahul Johuri and General Manager (Cricket Operations) Saba Karim has resigned from their respective posts last month, jeopardizing the board functions.
Speaking to The Sunday Express, a senior India cricketer said the board usually asks the players to raise invoices for contract dues every three months.

“But this time, we haven’t heard from them since the new list of contracted cricketers was announced. The BCCI used to pay the contract money in four instalments but now we don’t know when the payment will come. Last month, we were asked to raise the invoice for the New Zealand tour in February. The money hasn’t been credited yet,” said the cricketer, speaking on condition of anonymity.

The board is yet to respond to the claim by the newspaper.
