Exclusive: Indian football legend at last decides to attend opening ceremony
Suman Chakravorty and Sabyasachi Bagchi, New Delhi: After much trouble and turmoil that was surrounding the concerns that India’s one of the finest Captains of all time, Samar (Badru) Banerjee who felt 'neglected' and 'insulted' has finally agreed to visit New Delhi where the Indian Colts would be present to create history as when they face off against USA in the FIFA U17 World Cup. The former Mohun Bagan legend and India team skipper is one of the most recognised footballer in the history of Indian Football. Under his captaincy India achieved it's highest glory at the World stage when they came fourth in the 1958, Melbourne Olympics. Offended and insulted till yesterday Banerjee changed his mind after much requests from the FIFA LOC. Samar Banerjee will be reaching New Delhi today at 4PM in the afternoon where he along with other 12 captains will be felicitated by the FIFA LOC and the AIFF. Football legends like I M Vijayan, Bhaskar Ganguly, Bhaichung Bhutia and Bembem Devi on the historic day here. Among the celebrity guests, The Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Bollywood star Varun Dhawan will surely be there. Amitabh Bachchan and Sunny Leone too might come as surprise guests. The FIFA delegates too are invited.
