Mohun Bagan’s new recruit , Trinidadian world cupper Cornell Glenn got down to practice on Monday . Glenn who made a mark in I League for last couple of seasons for Shillong Lajong have been signed by the Bagan officials . Together with Soni Norde , Bagan coach Sanjay Sen can hope of bringing nightmares to opposition coaches . Glenn who scored 16 goals last season , just one short of I League’s top goal scorer Ranty Martins is quite exited to be joining the green and maroon brigade . His biggest challenge this season will be to help Mohun Bagan defend their I League title . According to Glenn ,“My biggest challenge will be to help defend the title for Mohun Bagan . It will be a honour for me to play in one of the biggest football clubs in India ”.
Glenn’s biggest moment was to play alongside Dwight Yorke in 2006 FIFA world cupper against Sweden . A huge fan of George Weah , Glenn is used to playing under pressure ,“ I relish doing well under pressure as I have the experience of playing in MLS . I know there will be huge expectation from Bagan fans to do well , but trust me it will act as a motivation for me .”
With Glenn joining the ranks , it will be a potent strike force for Mohun Bagan this season in I League . Glenn himself is quite exited to be playing alongside Soni Norde and Katsumi Yusa . On being asked about his combination with Norde , Glenn replied ,“ Football is all about team game, but yes I look forward to partner Soni Norde .”
Glenn , who last played a competitive match way back in May against East Bengal feels it won’t be a problem gelling with the Bagan footballers . Although Glenn joined the training , there were no confirmation yet from Bagan officials as to when the other marquee footballer Soni Norde will join the Green and Maroon brigade . According to club supremo Tutu Bose , the Haitian international will soon join the squad after the ISL . But he was delighted with Glenn joining the Green & Maroon brigade . He described Glenn to be the Santa Claus for the club this season , while talking to the scribes at the club tent . The I League champions have been passing through some tough times following their conflict with the sponsors . The Bagan president have come forward personally to phase out the tough financial crisis of the club . Like last year Mr Bose have personally contributed 3 crore to the club . On being asked about the recent financial crisis the club have been passing through , the Bagan president assured he will sort out the issue before leaving for Dubai in 10 days . There have been rumours circling round that the club is in talks with a corporate to rope in as the main sponsor . Mr Bose’s comment will add to the speculation that no sooner than later the club will get a sponsor . Mr Bose further added he wanted to follow the policy adopted by East Bengal club’s de facto supremo Debabrata Sarkar , the way he handles the club . East Bengal are yet to face such a situation given the fact that Kingfisher are still the primary sponsor of the club and have continued their support till date .
The club ground will be ready by December 31 along with the installation of bucket seats in the members stands . The work on floodlights is carried on a fast footing . Which means by the start of the local league next year the ground will be ready along with floodlights . The club officials will put forward a request to IFA to allocate the league matches in their own ground in the evening .
