Internet Desk: Veteran Indian tennis player Leander Paes and his Canadian partner Adil Shamasdin crashed out of the men’s doubles event of Wimbledon after they lost to the Australian duo of Julian Knowle and Philipp Oswald in a five set encounter on Thursday.

Paes and Shamasdin lost by 6-4, 6-4, 2-6, 6-7 (2), 8-10 in an encounter which lasted for at least four hours.

The Indo-Canadian pair converted two break points to bag the first set. They further extended their lead by claiming the second set too.

Oswald and Knowle arrested the slide in the third, outscoring their opponents.

The pairs traded blows in the fourth with one break apiece. But the Austrian duo won a flurry of points to take the set when it entered the tie-breaker.

For 16 games, the decider didn’t see a break, despite Knowle and Oswald getting two opportunities. They, however, converted their next break point, taking a decisive 9-8 lead, and then, held their serve to win the match.
