Internet Desk: There were some horrific moments in Wimbledon on Thursday when USA’s Bethanie Mattek screamed in agony after a fall in her match.

The five-time women’s doubles Grand Slam champion suffered an ‘acute knee injury’ when she slipped on court during her second-round game against Romania’s Sorana Cirstea.

After falling on Court 17, a shocked Mattek-Sands started screaming at the top of her voice: ‘Help me. Please help me. Please. F***. Help me. Please help me.’

The spectators were horrified, including her opponent, who was watching by the side of the court and in tears as her ladies’ doubles partner continued to scream.

Cirstea afterwards criticised the amount of time it took for medical attention to arrive and said: ‘You don’t even want this to happen to your worst enemy. I still remember the shock I had when I saw the knee. I’ve never seen anything like this except in the movies.

‘It was heartbreaking to see her that way. She started screaming. I went over. I saw her knee out.

‘I turned around and told them to bring a stretcher or something, because I think everyone froze. No one was having any reaction. It was heartbreaking because she went into shock.

‘It took a while until the medical team was there. It took a really long time. I don’t know for how long she was on the ground, but I would say 10, 15 minutes. For me, that’s really long.

‘Of course you wonder what would happen if it was a heart issue or something like this. Yes, of course, you start to wonder.’
