Internet Desk: Shikhar Dhawan’s coach Madan Sharma is not happy with his student. The opener who put India in the driver’s seat after scoring a brilliant hundred on Day 1 of the first test here in Galle is not happy with Dhawan missing a double hundred. According to Sharma, “I feel very happy for him as he was very determined to make a comeback into the test squad. He should have scored a double hundred.”

Mr Sharma missed the moment when Shikhar reached the three figure mark just after lunch.

“I did see a little bit of his innings before the lunch break as I had to leave for my academy after lunch. I was listening to the radio commentary as I was driving,” said Sharma.

Mr Sharma is not surprised to see Dhawan scoring a centurty as he has been amongst runs since IPL.

According to Sharma, “The runs he scored in Champions Trophy helped him regain his confidence. He himself was not expecting to get a chance. He planned a holiday in US, until he got a call from the selectors as Vijay was injured. Luck was also with him. He was not confident of getting a chance in the first test as there was Mukund and Rahul in the team. But I must say he grabbed his opportunities with both hands.”

It has been a long journey for Shikhar who has been training under Madan Sharma at the Telefunken Cricket Club in West Delhi. He was only 11 years old then.

Commenting on his positives, Manoj said, “He is a very positive guy. He has always worked hard on his physical fitness. He was scoring runs in domestic cricket and he did well in the IPL as well. For any batsman scoring runs is important. It’s good for him as he was in touch. He has always made comebacks since his U’19 days. It makes a player strong. It has made him mentally tough as well.”
