Kolkata: India has already lost the three-match Test series against South Africa and the Indian batsmen are yet to find the way against the Proteas bowlers. Though the nation’s young chinaman spinner Kuldeep Yadav is hoping for a turn around in the limited overs series. Currently he is in Kolkata and very busy in playing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy for Uttar Pradesh.

He already started his preparation for the upcoming ODI series against South Africa. It will be his second foreign tour for the national team. Speaking with the plans for the one-day series, he talked with www.xtratime.in about fitness, Eden hat-tricks, upcoming IPL and various issues related to cricket.

XT: You are already on the back foot as India has lost the test series. How hard it would be in the ODIs?

Kuldeep: We are all people of blood and flesh. So there will be a disappointment but, in my opinion there is no profit from being frustrated. Rather, it is better to fight again and remember that we have the power to counter-attack.

XT: But in the real test, the team failed in the final.

Kuldeep: We have lost the Test series but, we will play well in the ODI’s it’s not wise to consider as we are back footed for the ODI’s.

XT: How you are preparing for the South Africa Tour?

Kuldeep: After the regional round of Mushtaq Ali Trophy, we have played all the main round matches and I got wickets in every match. So, you can say match practice is good before the African tour.

XT: You spend a lot of runs in limited-overs matches. Isn’t it a concern for you?

Kuldeep: I do not think about that. I always look to attack the batsmen. They will play big shots in the limited-overs cricket of modern times in any situation of the match is.  So it will be a stupid idea to stop the run. Rather, if you can take wickets, then the chances of winning the team will increase.

XT: Did anyone help you to think that way?

Kuldeep: Thanks to Anil Kumble Sir for bringing this thought into mind after getting the chance to play for India. He said, ”The bowler will be beaten specially in modern day cricket but never be afraid. If you put pressure on the batsman, you will win the last fight.” I always tried to keep it in mind.

XT: How does Virat Kohli influenced you?

Kuldeep: His aggressive mentality in the field, the type of pressure he creates on the oppositions influenced me But his passion with fitness attracts me the most.To maintain success in international cricket it is very important to maintain fitness. So I have been practicing separately for the last two years with fitness.

XT: Despite performing well for Kolkata Knight Riders, they did not retain you. What are you thinking about this year IPL?

Kuldeep: Apart from the Uttar Pradesh, my performance with KKR has also helped me to get chance in the national team. Having played five years for KKR, I tested all the success. I know very well about the wickets of Eden Gardens. So I want to play for Knight Riders but the auction is not in my hand.
