Xtra Time Web Desk: In what comes as a huge setback for two-time IPL Champions Kolkata Knight Riders, captain Shreyas Iyer is likely to miss the start of IPL 2023. Iyer was ruled out of the recently concluded fourth test and will also miss the ODI series.

According to reports, Iyer may miss the first half of IPL 2023 and can be out of action till end of April. The star batter is suffering from a recurrence of a back injury that forced him to miss the ODI series against New Zealand and the first test of the Border Gavaskar Trophy.

With Iyer likely to miss out of action, the Knight Riders management will have to pick an interim captain. There are three names doing the rounds who can replace Shreyas as an interim leader.

The first option is West Indies all-rounder Sunil Narine who has been a legend for Kolkata Knight Riders ever since his debut season in IPL 2012. He has picked up 122 wickets in his IPL career, and played a pivotal part in helping them win two trophies.

Second option could be Nitish Rana. The left hand batter have the experience of captaining Delhi at the first-class level.

Third name that is doing rounds is Jamaican all-rounder Andre Russell. Even though he has been injury prone, he has been an integral part of KKR like Sunil Narine.
