Internet Desk: The All India Football Federation (AIFF) suffered a huge blow in Supreme Court today as the apex court has refused to stay the Delhi High Court order that quashed election of All India Football Federations’s (AIFF) office bearers. On November 8 the AIFF approached to the Supreme Court  challenging a decision of the Delhi High Court to cancel the results of elections held in December last year.

A bench headed by Justice J. Chelameswar and Abdul Nazeer heard the matter from both parties, and ultimately refused to give stay order on Delhi High Court’s decision. It means that the fresh election should be done within five months time.

The apex court further added that it will appoint two ombudsman, Ex-CEC S Y Quraishi and an eminent footballer to implement the orders of Delhi High Court for reforming constitution of the Indian football body.

Earlier on Wednesday AIFF counsel Amit Anand Tiwari sought an early hearing from the apex court as in its plea the Federation said that the country would lose an opportunity to host the FIFA U20 World Cup. India is set to bid for the tournament following the successful hosting of FIFA U17 World Cup.

The Delhi High Court had on October 31 set aside the election of Patel, holding it arbitrary, and appointed former Chief Election Commissioner S.Y. Quraishi as the AIFF administrator.

The High Court told Quraishi to hold fresh elections within five months.

Though the AIFF has welcomed the decision of the Supreme Court.” Former Chief Election Commissioner S.Y. Quraishi will look take all the administrative decisions. A former footballer too will be there with him, who is not a part of the federation. The old committee will do its work too and we won’t face any problem to submit any bid for the FIFA U20 World Cup,” said AIFF secretary Kushal Das.

The I-League will start from November 25. The trophy unveiling programme will take place ahead of that.
