As per reports the bronze statue of the former Indian skipper was supposed to be placed at the Bikash maidan which unfortunately didn't take place due to some undisputed politics that were revolving in the area. Sanjoy Basu the District Magistrate of the South Dinajpur was handed a letter of transfer yesterday from the state government. The locals of the area were up to the opinion that Basu had little intention to place Ganguly's statue in the stadium. They also added that Basu didn't work diligently and as a result was handed a transfer order after being posted here a year ago. "I am an employee of the government and this is just a routine transfer. India is a democratic country where everyone has the liberty to speak what they want but I say it again that this is just a routine transfer" said Sanjoy Basu. Earlier the South Dinajpur Sports Department had written to the Chief Minister to look into the matter, and Mamata Banerjee had said that proper arrangements would be made to instal Sourav's statue at the stadium. As per reports within a span of a month the statue would be placed at the stadium or anywhere within the Balurghat Municipality. Amidst the conflict between the two fractions of Trinamool Congress who interfered in the matter, it can be said that the District Magistrate was made a scapegoat.
