Kolkata: India’s star shuttler Kidambi Srikanth beats Olympic gold medalist Chen Long in a nail biting contest to clinch the Australian Open Super Series men’s singles title on Sunday. Srikanth won the tie in straight games 22-20, 21-16 to win his fourth Super Series title. With this win Kidambi Srikanth goes to No.1 in Dubai Destination Rankings.

It was Srikanth’s second back to back title win after he bagged the Indonesian Open Super Series Premier last week.

Srikanth who made it to the final of the Singapore Open couple of months back and won the Indonesia Open before this Super Series has become the fifth shuttler in the history of badminton to reach the three back to back Super Series finals.

Pullela Gopichand is the chief National Coach for the Indian Badminton team. Majority of the stuttlers who are currently representing India in the world stage all are students of him. He has won the Arjuna award, Dronacharya award as well as the Padma Bhushan award.

In an interview with www.xtratime.in Mr.Pullela Gopichand voiced out his opinions.

On being asked about Srikanth’s 3rd back to back super series victory, along with his second back to back series win, Gopichand said “I think it’s a really wonderful performance. To win back to back series at this level and defeating Chen Long is highly commendable.”

Of recent times after cricket the game of badminton is the most successful sport of the country and majority of these players train under Gopichand to which he said “I am happy and I as a player believed that it was possible to achieve success and I am lucky and fortunate that I have an opportunity to coach today and we have young talented players coming for it”

“It’s nothing about any success; it’s all about years of hard work and training that has been put and the results show up” said Gopichand when he was asked to give an insight about his planning and strategy of his coaching.

“It’s a little early to talk but the players are young and talented but I am confident we will be able to provide good results” said the coach when he was asked about the plans of shuttlers for the upcoming Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
