Kolkata: The third Inter School Shooting Championship will be inaugurated on this Thursday at The Newtown School. A press release published by Joydeep Karmakar Shooting Academy declared that more than 35 schools are to participate in this year’s championship. For the first time in the history of shooting sports, the fans can witness the entire tournament  live on sportsuid.com, which happens to be a revolution in social networking site.

Schools across West Bengal are to participate in this championship. Prominent schools from the city like Loreto House, South Point, Mahadevi Birla are to compete against district schools like Midnapur Collegiate School, St. Agnes Kharagpur. The aim of the academy is to bring as much students under their umbrella which is being reflected through the participation.

Olympian and the organizer of this championship Joydeep Karmakar said, “Shooting is a backward sports. In Delhi several schools have adopted shooting within their syllabus. But this is not done here. So to advertise this sports among students and their guardians we organize this championship within schools.”

There will be 12 events of Air Rifle and Air Pistol. More than 120 students will fight for 36medals. Also there will be competition for ‘Champion of Champions’ grand trophy. On the inaugural day a new shooting range will be inaugurated in the 5th floor of The Newtown School. This will give a new height to shooting in Kolkata.

About the possibilities of Indian shooters in the Rio Olympics Joydeep Karmakar baited on three. He said, “This year a team of 12 is going to the Olympic Games. Among them seven can reach the final. Three of them have the possibility of winning medal. They are Jitu Rai in 10 m Air Pistol and 50 m Pistol, Gurpreet Singh in 10 m Air Pistol and 25 m Rapid Fire Pistol and Ayonika Paul in 10 m Air Rifle.” Ayonika is the non-residential Bengali.
