We are not taking West Indies lightly, says Ajinkya Rahane

XtraTime Web Desk: World No.1 Test side India have lost the recently concluded five-match test series in England 1-4 and now they are getting ready to face West Indies who are ranked 8th in the ICC test rankings. Though the Windies are considered as weak in the longest format of the game, but India’s vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane has said that they are not taking the visitors lightly and it will be an exciting series.

“We are not taking West Indies lightly, but our focus is on trying to improve our performance as a team. Rather then looking at the opponent, our goal is to play good cricket,” Rahane told reporters in Rajkot on Tuesday.

He also things that there won’t be any pressure on uncapped batsmen like Prithvi Shaw and Mayank Agarwal who has got their maiden call-up in the national side for the two match test series.

Prithvi Shaw is likely to open the innings with KL Rahul in the first test and Agarwal is on the line to come in the middle order is another rookie Hanuma Vihari fails to impress in the first test at Rajkot.

“There is no pressure on Mayank and Prithvi, they have the support of the team management and it is their opportunity to perform,” Rahane told reporters in Rajkot on Tuesday. “I am happy for him [Shaw] … I saw him as a kid, we have practiced together and he has been doing well in the domestic circuit. I want to see him the way he batted for India A and Mumbai and I am sure he will do just fine.”
