We always had the belief that we can turn it around: Bumrah

XtraTime Web Desk: In the second session on day 4 of the third test England batsmen Jos Buttler and Ben Stokes frustrated the Indian bowlers as the hosts failed to take any wickets for more than four hours. It was Jasprit Bumrah who broke the dangerous 169-run partnership with the new ball. As per Bumrah when the ball got older in the first session the movement was less as the sun came out. But the team always had the self belief that if they keep on applying pressure, sometime or the other they will get the result.

“We were happy that even when the ball got older we were still bowling good lines and good lengths. The movement was less as soon as the sun came out, it got better to bat on. We always had the belief that if we keep on applying pressure, sometime or the other we will get the result. The second new ball, because of the new seam, it was seaming a bit more than the older ball. That was helping as well. I Was focussing on that. We were just trying to get one wicket, not to look too far ahead and just take one wicket at a time then everything will follow,” said Bumrah at the post day 4 press-conference.

On being asked about his contest with England skipper Joe Root, Bumrah added,”We were just having a chat on what lines to bowl to him. I had a chat with the captain. We tried to bowl a little fuller and then one back of a length. It helped today and we got the edge and the result.”

India’s star pacer Mohammed Shami got an injury during day 4 and he had to go outside the ground for quite some time. In this period of time Bumrah had to bowl in long spells. Though the lanky pacer has no problem with it. As per him he is used to it.

“When I made my first-class debut, my first spell was of 10 overs. So I was always used to bowling lot of overs in Ranji Trophy which always helps. That helped me today as well. When I was injured I was working on my fitness, my training schedules. I was always in touch with our trainers. Whenever I come I should be in good space. All of that helps today,” told Bumrah.

Jos Buttler and Jasprit Bumrah had played together for quite some time in the Indian Premier League when they were teammates in Mumbai Indians. Bumrah feels that bowling to Buttler in the nets on that time helped him in England to get his wicket.

“We’ve played together for MI in the IPL, so I’ve bowled a little bit to him in the nets, but not a lot. It’s always an interesting competition because he’s an attacking player. He’s an important player for their team as well. If he gets a good start, he keeps on going and it could create problems. I was just focusing on my strengths, whathas worked for me before. I’ve got him out 2-3 times in the IPL as well and in the nets as well. I was just focusing on that, what has helped me when I was bowling to him. I have a clear plan, a clear head and a clear space of mind,” concluded Bumrah.
