Kolkata: Hundreds of Sourav Ganguly fans waiting outside his residence returned disappointed as the former India captain preferred not to play the dhak (musical instrument popular in Bengal) nor did he shook his legs with the tunes, on the day of the idol immersion of Barisha Players Corner. The former India captain did make a brief appearance in front of his fans who were waiting since evening. He was seen climbing on the matador, praying to Maa Durga along with her daughter Sana.

For the Prince of Kolkata, Durga Puja always held a very special space in his heart since his childhood days.

“Durga Puja is easily the biggest festival of the people of Bengal. We all feel sad to see the festival get over so soon. But we have to accept it and wait for the Puja’s next year,” said Sourav while talking with the scribes outside his residence.

Sourav, the biggest cricketing idol in these parts, is the cynosure of all eyes at the Players’ Corner pandal on Biren Roy Road East in Behala. It has been a tradition for the members of the Ganguly family to come and follow the rituals during the day of idol immersion. Sourav himself has been taking part in it over the years.

On being asked how he celebrated the Puja this year, Sourav reckons, “It is still the same for me since my playing days. I’ve always enjoyed spending time with my family during the days of puja. This year was no different.”

Before entering his residence, he wished all the followers of xtratime.in a “Shuvo Bijoya”.

The former India captain is associated with Barisha Players’ Corner which celebrated its 41st Durga Puja this year.
