XtraTime Web Desk: The World Cup win in 2011 is one of the most memorable memories of the cricket fanatics in India. Not only to them, but also it was a special moment for legendary Sachin Tendulkar, who was playing his sixth as well as his final World Cup. It was a historic moment as the Men in Blue won the cup under Mahendra Singh Dhoni after 28 long years.
Though the current Indian skipper Virat Kohli who was a member of that team as well told that he was not that emotional on that moment. During the ongoing Indian Premier League Kolhi has revealed this in a video titled ‘Behind The Stumps’. Except Kohli, his teammates AB de Villiers and Yuzvendra Chahal were also present there.
“I didn’t feel as emotional as other guys because it was my first World Cup. I saw the emotions in the eyes of the guys that hadn’t won it for five World Cups. Sachin hadn’t done it. Bhajji (Harbhajan Singh), Yuvi (Yuvraj Singh), Zack (Zaheer Khan), everyone was emotional. MS was emotional because he led his idols to World Cup win.
“I didn’t have any of those emotions. I pushed myself to like cry because everyone was crying,” Kohli said while talking to the hosts.
Virat also broke his silence about the infamous ‘middle finger’ incident which happened during the tour of Australia in 2011-12. As per Kohli it was the result of frustration as he was not in good form in the series. He also shared how Ishant Sharma came out with the same gesture when he was mocked by Australian fans during the tour.
“I still remember. It came out of frustration. After that incident, match referee called me and asked what happened. I said nothing. Then he showed me the photograph of my gesture in the newspaper and I said I am sorry.
“After that incident, Australians had cameras everywhere we went. And once someone said something nasty to Ishant, he flicked fingers too,” he said.
Kohli was all praise for his RCB teammate de Villiers and shared an interesting anecdote highlighting the African batsman’s fan following in India.
“There was one game in Mumbai and once de Villiers came out to bat, crowd started chanting ‘AB, AB’. This really irked Rohit, who is from Mumbai. He was like what is this. More than 50 thousand voices were chanting AB’s name that day.”
Kohli pulled the leg of his India teammate Chahal too recalling a Ranji match where the leggie batted for 76 balls and scored a duck before getting stumped.
“He is the only guy in the Ranji trophy history who faced 76 balls and scored 0 run and then got out stumped.”
