Virat Kohli eclipses an unique milestone in Rainbow Nation

Debasis Sen, Centurion: India captain Virat Kohli eclipsed another milestone here at Super Sport Park on Friday. Kohli added another feather to his cap, by becoming the highest run scorer in a bilateral ODI series in South Africa. He went past former England batsman Kevin Pietersen, who had amassed 454 runs in 2005. The Indian captain has now scored more than 500 runs in the six match ODI series.

The 29 year old also notched up his 35th ODI ton here at the Super Sport Park. He has now scored three hundreds in the series with a highest score of 160*. Kohli took 83 balls to reach the three figure mark which included 17 hits to the fence. He has now scored 558 runs at a staggering average of 186 with a strike rate of 99.46 in the ODI series.

Kohli also took least number of innings (200) to reach 9500 ODI runs. He’s followed by AB de Villiers (215) Sourav Ganguly (246)  Sachin Tendulkar (247) M.S. Dhoni (256).

While chasing a target of 205 runs to win, the India skipper remained unbeaten on 129 off just 96 deliveries as the visitors chased down the target in just 32.1 overs with eight wickets in hand to bag the ODI series 5-1. Kohli was adjudged Man of the Match as well as Man of the Series for his brilliant performance throughout the series.

Earlier, Kohli took his 100th catch in ODI cricket. He became the sixth Indian to reach the landmark.
