Internet Desk: It has been in news that some players of Caribbean Premier League (CPL) side Barbados Tridents are yet to get their full payment of their wages of 2017 season. The side is owned by Indian business tycoon Vijay Mallya who has been living in UK after he was charged of money laundering which is associated to his business dealings in India.
As per sources a few Trident cricketers and support staffs haven’t got their full payment yet. The amount which is due is almost US$10,000 to more than US$100,000, but the tournament have already ended back in September last year. Everyone thought that the matter would be resolved ahead of the end of 2017 but the cricketers are still waiting for their payments and they have also threatened the franchise that they will take some legal action against them.
Mallya had taken over the Tridents before the last season thanks to a big assistance by Bajan government. He had to pay only an amount of $100 during the franchise transfer process but later Mallya admitted that the over-all cost of managing the side would be almost $2million including all the wages and annual franchise amount. Unlike the Indian Premier League, the Caribbean Premier League doesn’t have a revenue sharing model and they have to earn money to manage the team by ticket and merchandise sales and sponsorship.
