Internet Desk: Vicky Chandhok has been appointed as the new President of the FIA Asia-Pacific Rally Championship’s Working Group. The former President of the Federation of Motor Sports Club (FMSC) in India was chosen as the next head of the Asia-Pacific region at the elections held in Johor, Malaysia, on Monday.

The Indian stood against former president Steven Kennedy and Willard Martin from New Zealand, after he was unanimously selected to represent India by FMSC.

Chandhok  won the elections when three valid votes cast was in the favour of him, while one went to Martin. Australia’s Colin Tinder was elected as APRC’s Vice President.

“It’s a task that has just begun,” said Chandhok to Motorsport.com. “The APRC numbers have been dwindling over the years.

“I felt it needed fresh infusion of out of the box thinking which I am hoping will raise the numbers.

“The FMSCI proposed my candidature and I am glad that India has been given the anchor role to lead the 18 nations region (16 Asian and two Pacific) for the year ahead,” he added.
