Kolkata: Delhi Daredevils fiery opener Sanju Samson feels Robin Uthappa’s dropped catch cost them the match against Kolkata Knight Riders on Friday. Gautam Gambhir led KKR beat Delhi comprehensively by seven wickets at the Eden Gardens.

Uthappa played a gem of a knock of 59 runs in just 33 deliveries which helped KKR to outclass the hosts by seven wickets. The two-time IPL champions are at the top of the points table and on the verge of qualifying for the play-offs in IPL season 10.

Delhi got a golden opportunity to get Uthappa out, when the in-form batsman tried to play an attacking shot but the ball took a leading age and went up. Both Samson and Amit Mishra went for the catch but of them went under the ball eventually. Uthappa was batting on just nine runs on that time.

“Catches do count. Catches win matches and there was a dropped chance and he (Uthappa) made use of it. I think that cost us the match,” said Samson, whose 60 off 38 balls went in vain as Delhi posted 160 after being asked to bat first.

“It’s a busy crowd here lot of noise, so it’s not easy to communicate when the ball goes up. It happens in a match but I think we need to move on. we have a match day after. We have to forget it and move on,” Samson added.

Asked about him failing to score big after good starts, Samson said: “I think I am still learning. I am a 22-year-old and have a long career ahead. I need to finish games and need to play the whole 20 overs. Whenever you play 20 overs, the team has the best chances to win. I am trying for that.”

Asked how does Delhi come back after this defeat, Samson added, “When you play a sport like cricket failure is more than success. We all as sportsmen know how to come back from failures.”

“So I think we need to keep going as life. In life also we have failures. We all have doubts but we need a positive mindset. We need to challenge ourselves and move on positively.”
