Former I League club United Sports Club bounced back to the Kolkata Premier “A” division with a 2-0 win over Eastern Railway at Barasat stadium today . Goals from Babun Das and Dipankar Sarkar helped the purple side get the better of their opponents . Due to lack of sponsors and funds the club management thought of withdrawing the team from the Kolkata Premier “A” division . Due to which the club got relegated from the Premier “A” division . But a superb team effort from the club management and most importantly the footballers helped the club bounce back to the Premier “A” division .
The club , once regarded as the giant killers in Kolkata football have been facing the heat due to lack of fund since last couple of years . According to club official Nabab Bhattacharya , “It’s unfortunate that we will not be taking part in 2nd Division I League . We are involved with the club because of our love for football . We also have another team Patha Chakra which has been doing well . In fact we get to hear that East Bengal , Mohun Bagan junior teams struggling at junior level . We leave it to the destiny .”
