Internet Desk: Cristiano Ronaldo presents yet another memorable night for the football fans across the globe as the Portuguese legend scores two outstanding away goals to help Real Madrid snatch a crucial 2-1 Champions League quarter-final first leg win against Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena last night. He also becomes the first ever player to score 100 goals in European competitions.

“Cristiano was unhappy because he couldn’t score a third, that’s how ambitious he is,” Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane told reporters.

Ronaldo has now scored 97 goals in the Champions League, two in the UEFA Super Cup and one in ECL qualifying.

Ronaldo’s second-half goals in Munich ensured Madrid came from behind – after Arturo Vidal’s 25th-minute header – to put the defending champions on course to reach the semi-finals for a seventh successive year.

“It’s a big result, it isn’t easy to come here and win,” Zidane said. “We would have preferred to have scored another goal,” Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane told French TV. “Their goalkeeper saved lots of chances; a lot.”

Bayern, who were without top-scorer Robert Lewandowski after he failed to recover from a knock to his right shoulder, should have been 2-0 up at the break but Vidal sent his penalty well over the crossbar after Dani Carvajal was adjudged to have blocked a Frank Ribery effort with his arm.

“It happens in football. It’s not the first time and it won’t be the last,” Bayern coach Carlo Ancelotti said of the missed penalty.

“We’re still alive, we’re not dead.”

Bayern were dealt another blow with a half-hour to play when Javi Martinez was sent off for a second yellow card within three minutes for fouls on Ronaldo.

“The sending off was the turning point,” Bayern captain Philipp Lahm said.

“The red card was the neck breaker.”

At the Vicente Calderon, Antoine Griezmann converted a contentious first-half penalty to give Atletico Madrid a 1-0 win over Leicester City.
